Abstract The aim is to analyze the trend in breast cancer mortality rates and its correlation with the socioeconomic development status in Brazil. It involved an ecological time series study carried out in the 26 units of the federation, Federal District and regions of Brazil. Data sources included the Mortality Information System (number of deaths), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (resident population) and the study of the Global Burden of Disease (Socio-demographic Index - SDI). Data from 2005 to 2019 were used. The trend was analyzed using Prais-Winsten regression models. The relationship between the mortality rate and the SDI was analyzed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient. During the study period, 207,683 deaths from breast cancer occurred. The average standardized mortality rate was 19.95 deaths per 100,000 women in Brazil. All the regions of Brazil showed an increasing trend in mortality. Of the total federative units, 22 showed an increasing trend. There was a positive relationship between the mortality rate and the SDI. The standardized mortality rate for breast cancer showed an increasing trend in Brazil, in all regions and in most states. There was a direct association between mortality and SDI, indicating a greater magnitude in more developed regions.

Resumo O objetivo é analisar a tendência da taxa de mortalidade por câncer de mama e sua correlação com o status de desenvolvimento socioeconômico no Brasil. Estudo ecológico de séries temporais realizado nos 26 estados, Distrito Federal e regiões do Brasil. As fontes de dados foram o Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade (número de óbitos), o Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (população residente) e o estudo da Carga Global de Doenças (socio-demographic index - SDI). Foram usados dados de 2005 a 2019. A tendência foi analisada pelos modelos de regressão de Prais-Winsten. A relação entre a taxa de mortalidade e o SDI foi analisada pelo coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. No período do estudo ocorrerem 207.683 óbitos por câncer de mama. A taxa padronizada de mortalidade média foi de 19,95 óbitos por 100.000 mulheres no Brasil. O Brasil e todas as regiões apresentaram tendência crescente da mortalidade. Do total de estados, 22 apresentaram tendência crescente. Verificou-se relação positiva entre a taxa de mortalidade e o SDI. A taxa de mortalidade padronizada por câncer de mama apresentou tendência crescente no Brasil, em todas as regiões e na maioria das unidades da federação. Verificou-se associação direta entre mortalidade e SDI, indicando maior magnitude em regiões mais desenvolvidas.

Resumo O objetivo do artigo é analisar a tendência da taxa de mortalidade padronizada (TMP) por tuberculose e sua correlação com o status de desenvolvimento no Brasil. Estudo ecológico de séries temporais que analisou dados de óbitos por tuberculose notificados entre 2005 e 2019 de todos os estados. Os dados foram extraídos do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade, do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística e do estudo da Carga Global de Doenças. A tendência temporal foi analisada pela regressão de Prais-Winsten. A análise da correlação de Spearman entre a TMP e o índice sociodemográfico (socio-demographic index - SDI) também foi realizada. De 2005 a 2019, foram registrados 68.879 óbitos por tuberculose no Brasil. A taxa média de mortalidade foi de 2,3 óbitos por 100.000 habitantes. A tendência decrescente da TMP por tuberculose foi observada no Brasil e em todas as regiões. Verificou-se correlação negativa significativa entre o SDI e a TMP. A maioria dos estados apresentou tendência decrescente e nenhum deles teve tendência crescente. Uma relação inversa foi verificada entre o SDI e a mortalidade por tuberculose.

Abstract The scope of this article is to analyze the trend of the standardized mortality rate (SMR) for tuberculosis and its correlation with the developmental status in Brazil. An ecological time series study was conducted to analyze data of deaths from tuberculosis reported between 2005 and 2019 in all states. Data were extracted from the Mortality Information System, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, and the Global Burden of Disease study. The temporal trend was analyzed using Prais-Winsten regression. Spearman’s correlation analysis between SMR and Socio-Demographic Index (SDI) was also performed. From 2005 to 2019, 68,879 deaths from tuberculosis were recorded in Brazil. The average mortality rate was 2.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The decreasing trend of SMR due to tuberculosis was observed in Brazil and in all regions. There was a significant negative correlation between SDI and TMP. TMP due to tuberculosis revealed a decreasing trend in Brazil and in all regions. Most states showed a decreasing trend and none of them had an increasing trend. An inverse relationship was found between developmental status and mortality due to tuberculosis.

Background: Among chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) are the main causes of premature mortality globally. The comprehensive care model focused on these diseases, presents as one of its components, the global cardiovascular risk screening (CVR).Objectives: To estimate cvR stratified by sociodemographic variables, as well as factors associated with moderate/high risk, in the adult population living in the municipality of Senador Canedo, metropolitan region of the state of Goiás, Midwest region of Brazil.Methods: The study was conducted through a household survey, through the application of a questionnaire with questions related to lifestyle and data collection such as weight, height, waist circumference, blood pressure, glycated hemoglobin and cholesterol dosage of 526 participants. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed using the Poisson regression model to analyze the factors associated with CVR according to the model proposed by the Framingham study.Results: The prevalence of High CVR was 12.2% (95%CI:9.5 - 15.5) and moderate CVR was 13.3% (95%CI:10.5 -16.8). The factors associated with high/moderate CVR were individuals without incomplete education or elementary (RPaj: 6.2; 95% CI: 1.3 - 29.7), insufficiently active (RPaj: 3.1; 95% CI: 1.8-5.0), and self-assessment of regular health status (RPaj: 1.8; 95% CI: 1.1-3.2).Conclusion: The present study allowed verifying the magnitude of CVR and the factors associated with high risk, consisting of an important instrument to guide the actions to prevent cardiovascular outcomes in the population attached to the family health strategy in the municipality of Senador Canedo.

Fundamentos: Dentre as Doenças Crônicas não Transmissíveis (DCNT), as Doenças Cardiovasculares (DCV) são as principais causas de mortalidade prematura globalmente. O modelo de atenção integral voltado para essas doenças, apresenta como um dos seus componentes, o rastreamento de risco global cardiovascular (RCV).Objetivos: Estimar o RCV estratificado por variáveis sociodemográficas, bem como fatores associados ao risco moderado/alto, na população adulta residente no município de Senador Canedo, região metropolitana da capital do estado de Goiás, Região Centro-Oeste do Brasil.Métodos: O estudo foi realizado por meio de um inquérito domiciliar, através da aplicação de questionário com perguntas relativas ao estilo de vida e coleta de dados como peso, altura, circunferência da cintura, pressão arterial, dosagem de hemoglobina glicada e de colesterol de 526 participantes. As análises bivariada e multivariada foram realizadas por meio do modelo de regressão de Poisson para analisar os fatores associados ao RCV segundo o modelo proposto pelo estudo de Framingham.Resultados: A prevalência do RCV Alto foi de 12,2% (IC95%:9,5 - 15,5) e do RCV Moderado foi 13,3% (IC95%:10,5 -16,8). Os fatores associados ao RCV Alto/moderado, foram: indivíduos sem instrução ou fundamental incompleto (RPaj: 6.2; IC 95%: 1.3 - 29.7), insuficientemente ativo (RPaj: 3.1; IC 95%: 1.8-5.0), e autoavaliação do estado de saúde regular (RPaj: 1.8; IC 95%: 1.1-3.2).Conclusão: O presente trabalho permitiu verificar a magnitude do RCV e os fatores associados ao alto risco, consistindo num importante instrumento para orientar as ações de prevenção de desfechos cardiovasculares na população adstrita a estratégia saúde da família no município de Senador Canedo.

Métodos: Estudo transversal desenvolvido em 115 comunidades rurais distribuídas em 45 municípios do Estado de Goiás, sendo: 13 ribeirinhas, 51 quilombolas e 63 assentamentos de reforma agrária. Realizou-se amostragem probabilística, e os participantes foram selecionados de forma aleatória. A variável desfecho foi diabetes mellitus autorreferido, enquanto as de exposição foram sociodemográficas, estilo de vida, condições de saúde e acesso a serviços de saúde. Utilizou-se regressão múltipla para verificar a associação entre variáveis de estudo. Resultados: Entre os 2.537 participantes, a prevalência geral de diabetes foi de 9,8%, sendo 13,5% nos ribeirinhos, 10,0% nos quilombolas e 9,3% nos assentados. Os fatores associados ao diabetes foram a autopercepção negativa de saúde, ser ex-fumante, hipertensão arterial, hipercolesterolemia e residir em comunidade ribeirinha. Conclusão: Os resultados reforçam a necessidade de fortalecer estratégias para prevenção e controle da diabetes e suas complicações em populações rurais, especialmente entre os ribeirinhos.

The outcome variable was self-reported diabetes mellitus, while exposure variables were sociodemographic, lifestyle, health conditions and access to health services. Multiple regression was used to determine the association between study variables. Results: Among the 2,537 participants, the overall prevalence of diabetes was 9.8%, with 13.5% in river dwellers, 10.0% in quilombolas and 9.3% in settlers. Factors associated with diabetes were negative self-perception of health, being a former smoker, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, and living in a river community. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need to strengthen strategies for the prevention and control of diabetes and its complications in rural populations, especially among river dwellers.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To investigate the epidemiology of tobacco use and nicotine dependence in a sample of truck drivers in Brazil. METHODS Between 2015 and 2016, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 624 truck drivers who operate on the BR-050 highway in Brazil. Participants were interviewed about sociodemographic data, occupational characteristics, mental health, behavioral data, and tobacco use. Then, the Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence (FTND) was used to verify nicotine dependence in smoking truck drivers. Logistic regression and linear regression were also used to verify factors associated with tobacco use in the previous 30 days and nicotine dependence scores, respectively. RESULTS The prevalence of tobacco use among truck drivers was 21.1% (n = 132;95%CI: 18.1–24.5). Of the total number of smokers who responded to the FTND (n = 118; 89.4%), most had high/very high nicotinic dependence (68.6%; 95%CI: 59.8–76.3). Tobacco use was associated with absence of religion (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 2.60; 95%CI: 1.35–5.01), employment relationship of the contract (AOR = 1.98; 95%CI: 1.26–3.13); > 12 hours daily working time (AOR = 1.80; 95%CI: 1.09–2.98) and alcohol use in the previous 30 days (AOR = 2.92; 95%CI: 1.86–4.57). Irregular physical activity was associated with higher scores of nicotine dependence (β = 1.87; 95%CI: 0.55–3.19). CONCLUSION The results showed a high prevalence of tobacco use and high/very high nicotine dependence among the truck drivers.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between bacterial vaginosis and cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in young and adult women. METHODS This systematic review and meta-analysis was based on the Prisma methodological guidelines. PubMed and Web of Science were searched using the following descriptors: “bacterial vaginosis and HPV”, in June 2019. Articles published from 2012 to 2019 were included. Inclusion criteria were original studies that investigated the association between bacterial vaginosis and cervical HPV infection; articles published in English, Spanish or Portuguese; studies conducted in young and adult, non-pregnant, non-HIV-infected women; studies that used the Nugent criteria for the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis and studies in which the detection of HPV used the polymerase chain reaction technique. Assembled data, odds ratio (OR) and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were estimated for the association between bacterial vaginosis and cervical HPV infection using random-effects models. A bilateral value of p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULT Six studies were selected for analysis and demonstrated association between bacterial vaginosis and cervical HPV infection (OR = 2.68; 95%CI: 1.64–4.40; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Bacterial vaginosis was considered a risk factor for cervical HPV infection, since women with bacterial vaginosis were more likely to be infected with HPV.

Resumo Objetivo: Analisar a tendência temporal e a distribuição espacial de sífilis gestacional (SG) e sífilis congênita (SC) em Goiás, Brasil, no período 2007-2017. Métodos: Estudo ecológico de série temporal com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação. Utilizou-se a regressão de Prais-Winsten para analisar a tendência dos indicadores, por macrorregião de saúde. Realizou-se análise espacial descritiva para verificar a distribuição espacial dos casos, em três anos da série. Resultados: Foram registrados 7.679 casos de SG e 1.554 de SC no período. Observou-se tendência crescente das taxas de detecção de SG (variação percentual anual [VPA] de 18,0 – intervalo de confiança de 95% [IC95%] de 15,3 a 20,8) e de SC (VPA=16,8 – IC95% 20,1;33,8); e um acréscimo de 326% no número de municípios com taxa de incidência de SC >0,5/1 mil nascidos vivos. Conclusão: Foi identificado crescimento das taxas de detecção da sífilis gestacional e congênita e do número de municípios notificantes.

Abstract Objective: To analyze temporal trend and spatial distribution of syphilis in pregnancy and congenital syphilis in Goiás State, Brazil, between 2007 and 2017. Methods: This was an ecological time series and spatial distribution study with data obtained from the Notifiable Health Conditions Information System. Prais-Winsten Regression was used to analyze indicator trends by health macro-region. Descriptive spatial analysis was performed to verify case distribution in three different years in the period. Results: Between 2007 and 2017, 7,679 cases of syphilis in pregnancy and 1,554 congenital syphilis cases were reported. A rising trend was found in the rates of syphilis in pregnancy (annual percent change [APC] = 18.0 – 95% confidence interval [95%CI] 15.3;20.8) as well as in congenital syphilis rates (APC=16.8 – 95%CI 20.1;33.8); and a 326% increase in the number of municipalities with a congenital syphilis incidence rate >0.5/1,000 live births. Conclusion: Growth in syphilis in pregnancy and congenital syphilis detection rates was identified, as was growth in the number of municipalities reporting cases.

Resumo Objetivo Estimar a prevalência e fatores associados à hipertensão em adultos de Senador Canedo, Goiás, Brasil, no ano de 2016. Métodos Inquérito transversal, de base populacional, com amostragem por conglomerados em três estágios. Foi aplicado questionário e realizadas aferições de peso, altura, circunferência da cintura, pressão arterial e dosagem do colesterol total. Empregou-se regressão de Poisson para estimar razões de prevalências (RP) e intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%). Resultados Nos 709 participantes, a prevalência de hipertensão foi de 23,6% (IC95% 19,3;28,6). Os fatores associados foram: inativos no lazer (RP=1,7 - IC95% 1,1;2,5); circunferência de cintura aumentada (RP=5,9 - IC95% 3,6;9,6); hipercolesterolemia (RP=2,6 - IC95% 1,3;5,2); e idade ≥60 anos (RP=2,9 - IC95% 1,3;6,2). Conclusão A prevalência de hipertensão foi inferior à descrita para o Brasil em 2013. Inatividade física, acúmulo de gordura abdominal e idade foram fatores associados à hipertensão.

Abstract Objective To estimate prevalence and factors associated with hypertension in adults in Senador Canedo, Goiás, Brazil, in 2016. Methods This was cross-sectional survey, with three-stage cluster sampling. A questionnaire was applied and weight, height, waist circumference, blood pressure and total cholesterol levels were measured. Poisson regression was used to estimate prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Results Hypertension prevalence was 23.6% (95%CI - 19.3;28.6) among the 709 participants. The associated factors were: sedentarism (PR=1.7 - 95%CI% 1.1;2.5); enlarged waist circumference (PR=5.9 - 95%CI 3.6;9.6); hypercholesterolemia (PR=2.6 - 95%CI 1.3;5.2); and age ≥60 years (PR=2.9 - 95%CI 1.3;6.2). Conclusion Hypertension prevalence was lower than that described for Brazil as a whole in 2013. Physical inactivity, accumulated abdominal fat and age were factors associated with hypertension.

Resumen Objetivo Estimar la prevalencia y los factores asociados con la hipertensión en adultos de Senador Canedo, Goiás, Brasil, en el año 2016. Métodos Encuesta con muestreo por conglomerados en tres etapas. Se aplicó cuestionario y evaluaron medidas de peso, altura, circunferencia de cintura, presión arterial y colesterol total. La regresión de Poisson se usó para estimar las razones de prevalencia (RP) y los intervalos de confianza del 95% (IC95%). Resultados Entre los 709 participantes, la prevalencia de hipertensión fue del 23,6% (IC95% 19,3; 28,6). Los factores asociados fueron: inactivo en el tiempo libre (RP=1,6 - IC95% 1,1; 2,5); aumento de la circunferencia de la cintura (RP=1,7 - IC95% 1,1;2,5); hipercolesterolemia (RP=5,9 - IC95% 3,6;9,6); y edad ≥60 años (RP=2,9 - IC95% 1,3;6,2). Conclusión La prevalencia de hipertensión fue menor que la descrita para Brasil en 2013. La inactividad física, la acumulación de grasa abdominal y la edad fueron factores asociados con la hipertensión.

Resultados Nos 709 participantes, a prevalência de hipertensão foi de 23,6% (IC95% 19,3;28,6). Os fatores associados foram: inativos no lazer (RP=1,7 - IC95% 1,1;2,5); circunferência de cintura aumentada (RP=5,9 - IC95% 3,6;9,6); hipercolesterolemia (RP=2,6 - IC95% 1,3;5,2); e idade ≥60 anos (RP=2,9 - IC95% 1,3;6,2). Objective. To analyze temporal trend and spatial distribution of syphilis gestational and congenital syphilis among live-born infants in Goiás State, Brazil, between 2007 and 2017. Methods. Ecological time series and spatial distribution study with data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System. Prais-Winstein Regression was used to analyze the trend of indicators by health macro-region. Descriptive spatial analysis was performed to verify distribution from three years of that period. Results. Between 2007 and 2017, 7,679 cases of syphilis gestational and 1,554 of congenital syphilis were reported. There was a linear increase in detection rates of syphilis gestational VariationPercentualAnnual: 18.0 – confidence interval 95% [95%CI] of 15.3 to 20.8) and congenital (VPA=16.8 – 95%CI 20.1;33.8); and a 326% increase in the number of municipalities with a congenital syphilis incidence rate &gt;0.5/1,000 live births. Conclusion. A continuous increase in syphilis gestational and congenital syphilis was identified in different health regions from Goiás.

Objetivo. Analisar a tendência temporal e distribuição espacial de sífilis gestacional (SG) e sífilis congênita (SC) em Goiás, Brasil, no período 2007-2017. Métodos. Estudo ecológico de série temporal com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação. Utilizou-se a regressão de Prais-Winstein para analisar a tendência dos indicadores, por macrorregião de saúde. Realizou-se análise espacial descritiva para verificar a distribuição espacial dos casos, em três anos da série. Resultados. Foram registrados 7.679 casos de SG e 1.554 de SC no período. Observou-se tendência crescente das taxas de detecção de SG (variação percentual anual [VPA] de 18,0 – intervalo de confiança de 95% [IC95%] de 15,3 a 20,8) e de SC (VPA=16,8 – IC95% 20,1;33,8); e um acréscimo de 326% no número de municípios com taxa de incidência de SC &gt;0,5/1000 nascidos vivos. Conclusão. Foi identificado crescimento das taxas de detecção da sífilis gestacional e congênita e do número de municípios notificantes.
